How safe are our roads?
How safe are our roads?
With over 52,000,000 registered driving licences with the DVLA.
Over 42,000.000 are full driving licence holders, with so many cars on the roads, how safe
are our roads?
With everyone in such a rush nowadays to get somewhere, the risk of accidents increases.
Does anyone ever notice road traffic signals and warning signs?
Have drivers become so selfish that they are unaware of the dangers they are not only
putting themselves in, but the lives of other road users, emergency workers and road
workers?
Or are they just totally oblivious to anything happening around them, other than trying to get
where they want to be, rather than checking what is happening in their lane, next to them
and above them on the overhead gantry, showing what possible hazard or incident could be
taking place, right at that time.
One of the warning signs that has been ignored over 53,000 times is the RED X
Do the drivers who have deliberately missed this sign, think it is on just to inconvenience
them, it is there for a real and stark warning, that there is a serious incident or accident
ahead, and the road is closed for the safety of the emergency services dealing with the
incident. It allows them to work in relative safety. Without the risk of them getting injured and
even worse killed because of a very impatient and ignorant driver. Who may think that they
are above everyone else and can drive in whatever way he/she likes?
I think it is time that dangerous drivers were penalised to the full letter that the law allows,
and our government allows tougher sentencing for them.
Drivers have been receiving fines for travelling in the lane with the RED X above, but does
it go far enough?
What do you think
Are the drivers learning their lesson with a fine, or does it need to go much further.
Let me know your thoughts.
