Emergency Stop for Automatics
On this driving lessons you will be learning how to perform the emergency stop. This may or may not be done on your driving test.
For this you will be first asked to “pull up in a legal and safe place”. Once you have done this, You will then be told. “We are now going to perform the emergency stop. On the command stop! (Hand upwards in front of you) you will stop as quickly and safely as possible”. I may look over my shoulder please do not slow down at this point.
For this you you will then drive off in a normal way, as you are driving the examiner will keep looking for a place to do the emergency stop. Once the examiner is happy with it being safe they will say STOP!. The you will hit the break as if some0one you love or care about has walked in front of your car. Once you have stopped put your gears into park and the relax. (If you do have a manual hand break the put that on first).
Then the examiner will say “move off when you are ready” When asked to do this you will then put you car into gear do full observations from the blind spot on your left all the way to the blind spot on your right, then signal if necessary and move off.
If you do start to skid as you stop start to steer into the skid. An example if you start skidding to the left you then need to steer to the left and visa versa.
